Protect curb inlets from oil and sediment-laden stormwater runoff The Ultra-Curb Guard Plus can withstand a substantial amount of rainwater that curb inlets often receive. The heavy-duty foam inserts wedge securely into the inlet ensuring the unit stays in place. The polypropylene material is absorbent and engineered to filter large amounts of water without ponding or flooding. Any product designed to filter the water coming into one needs two important features: (1) the ability to handle large volumes of water and (2) the ability to stay in place when (1) happens. Wedge-shaped, heavy-duty foam secures unit in curb inlet. Woven, polypropylene material provides high flow rate — will not cause ponding or flooding. Additional Information The flow rate for the 3′ model is 28 GPM The flow rate for the 4′ model is 37.3 GPM We offer two lengths for that reason.  Part #9248 is 36″ long and Part #9251 is 48″ long.  In addition to the two lengths, the units can also be cut so that you can have a “custom fit”.  The foam wedges that are used to keep the unit secured have some give so that they’ll fit a range of heights.  If necessary, they are also perforated so that small sections can be cleanly torn off to allow a good fit in smaller inlets. We can ship up to (30) of the 36″ (p/n 9248) or 48″ (p/n 9251) units on a single, standard pallet.  The shipping weight per unit for the 36″ unit is 6 lbs. (2.72 kg).  The 48″ unit is 8 lbs. (3.6 kg).  Freight class is 77.5. In order for a product like this to work effectively, it needs to stay in place.  You don’t have to look very far to see other filtering products that have been washed away or pushed aside by the rainwater it is supposed to be filtering.  The Ultra-Curb Guard’s foam inserts do an outstanding job of keeping it in place, even in the heaviest storms. Compared to other solutions (gravel bags, rolls of material, perforated PVC piping, etc.), the Ultra-Curb Guard Plus has a fairly low profile and is less likely to be damaged by street sweepers, traffic, etc. It’s also a much cleaner looking install. Protect the water system from sediment and pollutants with Ultra-Drain Guard catch basin inserts The Ultra-Drain Guard is engineered to filter stormwater waste before it becomes a problem in the water system. As a storm drain filter, it removes contaminants like litter, sand, and oil from stormwater flow. Its geotextile fabric and easy installation make it ideal for industrial facilities, construction sites, and parking lots where stormwater runoff is likely to carry oil, eroded soil, debris, and fuel contaminants from cars. Compliance: Exceeds 80% sediment removal efficiency. Helps comply with NPDES, 40 CFR 122.26 (1999) when used as Best Management Practice in Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans. Installation: Easily installed in most drains. Simply raise the grate, place the Ultra-Drain Guard over the opening, and carefully lower the grate back in place, then pinch the fabric in place to keep it secure. The Ultra-Drain Guard has several models: Oil & Sediment Model: Removes up to .87 gallons of hydrocarbons as well as dirt, sand, and other contaminants. Oil & Sediment Plus Model: The addition of a filter strips increases oil and grease absorption by .51 gallons, offering a total capacity of 1.38 gallons of hydrocarbon removal. Trash & Debris Model: Designed specifically to catch larger items and floatables like leaves, cigarette butts, and paper goods. More recently used for capturing plastic pellets in support of programs like Operation Clean Sweep. Additional Information When new, the Ultra-Drain Guard has a flow rate of 90 gpm/ft2. However, the unit has been designed with overflow ports.  These allow the Ultra-Drain Guard a flow rate of 770 gpm which will prevent any flooding or ponding during extreme rain events.  Any water that goes through the overflow is essentially untreated. The amount of rainfall and the amount and type of pollutants that the unit will be exposed to, among other things will determine the Ultra-Drain Guard’s life expectancy.  For this reason, we recommend inspecting the unit after each significant rain event to better understand how much each Ultra-Drain Guard will capture.  We have had test units in Seattle as well as Florida that were still working effectively after more than a year after installation. This product can be reused under most circumstances.  If the Ultra-Drain Guard is filled with sand, silt, and sediment, it can be removed from the drain, emptied out and replaced.  Trash and debris can also be removed.  The exception is if the Ultra-Drain Guard is saturated with oil, gas or other hydrocarbons and because these pollutants can be flushed out of the Ultra-Drain Guard by a major rain event, it is recommended that the units be replaced instead of reused. Usually, the most difficult part of installing an Ultra-Drain Guard is the handling of the catch basin’s grating.  Depending on the area, these grates can be large and heavy and therefore a challenge to lift/move.  For that reason, a second set of hands is recommended.  The rest of the installation is quick and easy. The sewn in straps are used when removing a full Ultra-Drain Guard from the catch basin. BEFORE lifting the grate, the four straps should be “fished out” and brought up through the drain’s grating.  A piece of rebar, steel rod or a shovel or broom handle can then be inserted through each set of straps. When the grating is lifted, the Ultra-Drain Guard will be lifted with it instead of dropping into the catch basin. Any excess material that is leftover after the grate has been put in place can be trimmed but it is certainly not required.  In fact, there are a couple of reasons that leaving the extra material is beneficial. It can act as a “pre-filter” and remove some pollutants from the stormwater before they have a chance to get below the grate and into the Ultra-Drain Guard.  Also, if there is a possibility that the Ultra-Drain Guard will be reused in the future, the excess material will make it much easier to be reinstalled. The Ultra-Drain Seal should be stored in a cool, dry area in the box that it is shipped in.  Optional hard-plastic carrying cases that can be wall mounted or truck mounted are also available.  It is important that the Ultra-Drain Seal does not touch itself because, over time, the touching areas will fuse together.  This can be prevented by using the cardboard tube and plastic sheeting each unit is shipped in. ‘NR’ stands for ‘Not Recommended’.  HOWEVER, it is worth noting that most chemical compatibility guides (ours included) are based on a one-year immersion test.  In other words, the material being tested is completely immersed in the chemical in question.  After one year, the material is removed and checked for any degradation.  Needless to say, a spill response product is not going to be exposed to a chemical for a year.  So it’s possible that the Ultra-Drain Seal will be effective against a spill of a chemical that is listed as ‘NR’. Ultra-HydroKleen® is a true EPA filter designed to reduce pollutants in stormwater and industrial runoff. Its triple layer filter removes hydrocarbons, heavy metals, sediments, and other organics, with a removal efficiency rate of over 80%. Stop oil and other hydrocarbons from entering trench drains There are a number of UltraTech stormwater management products for standard storm drains. A smaller number of combination drains… but still a fair amount. So when we were challenged by a customer for a solution to keep residual fuel from being washed down their trench drains, we were surprised that there wasn’t something already available. The challenge with most trench drains is their shape… long, narrow and shallow. That combination makes typical drain solutions impractical. With the Ultra-Trench Filter Boom, we move the filtering solution above the drain and actually treat the water before it even reaches the drain. Using Ultra-X-Tex material, hydrocarbons are quickly removed and captured from the stormwater flow, allowing only clean rainwater to flow into the trench drain.
